RFID Sensor System Promoted for Highway Safety

It's always "for safety"...

So this is how the highway surveillance begins...

RFID is routinely used to collect highway tolls. Now an Australian firm is planning to use the technology to prevent highways from taking their toll on drivers. Telepathx has developed a system that integrates RFID tags, crash sensors, and wireless mesh networks to automatically detect crashes, assess the severity, and report the incident to public safety forces.

Speed limit detection will also be employed, as surpassing the limit is unsafe. This will be interesting.

You can only detect speed if the rfid signal is transmiting, I just read in the rfidjournal that Telepathx system only activates when an event has happend. I am very happy those guys concidered privacy issues for us. A striped down version of Onstar for only a buck, This Aussie company gets my vote for rfid innovator of the year
